Here’s what I am doing to ensure safety if we are to work together

Here is what to expect if we are to work together: During the pandemic, I will securely meet with you virtually using a HIPAA-compliant video teleconference platform. Furthermore, to make treatment as seamless as possible, all of my forms are electronic and are sent via a link to be completed at your leisure prior to our first session. If you are using insurance for which I am a provider, I will bill as a courtesy and you will be responsible for the copayment and deductible.

In the forms, I request to store a credit card for the convenience of billing or crediting you for any overpayments. If for any reason, you are uncomfortable with this option, I have another encrypted and secure option called Ivy Pay that is HIPAA-compliant and was created specifically for therapists.

A lot of people do not know what happens during a psychological counseling session. I want to explain the process for you, so you know what to expect should you pursue a consultation. First, I will explain the general process, followed by specific examples of how I work with clients.

During the initial session or sessions, we identify what interferes with you living the life that you want and from reaching personal goals. Next, over the course of counseling, we find ways to effectively deal with the obstacles so that you can live more freely, to the point where the way you like to see yourself actually fits more with how you are. Finally, during the latter stages of counseling, we work to maintain the positive changes in your life.

So, more specifically, how does it work? Let me break it down into steps so that you know what to expect when I work with you:

First, we will discuss your main concerns and I will gather some background information about your life and your functioning. This will help us clarify and prioritize your current needs. Next, we will develop a simple step-by-step plan of action to help you reach your goals. And finally, I will support you in putting your plan into action so you may live more consistently with how you want to live.

Let me offer a free jewel of wisdom. The benefits from psychological counseling are not widely publicized. Almost anyone can benefit from it. Many people utilize psychological counseling for different reasons. Some need additional support during a difficult time in their lives. Others want to learn how to improve the relationships they have or to create new ones. And some want to improve their knowledge and skills, to learn to cope with problems more effectively and manage their symptoms of anxiety, anger, drug abuse, or depression. Occasionally, I see someone who comes into counseling for the sole reason of self-improvement, with no pressing problems.

In my experience, most people tend to seek help after a problem reaches a crisis state. If such individuals only sought counseling earlier, they would not have had to endure such pain and any additional problems. Unfortunately, too often people attempt to tackle their problems alone or with the advice of a biased family member or friend. In my opinion, it would be much more effective to, instead, consult with a psychologist when problems arise. Psychologists have expertise in dealing with many of life's problems. Making the first appointment is a necessary, but difficult step, in order to get the support you need.

In my opinion, a good therapist should help clients see their options in dealing with problems, support them in taking steps to make positive changes, demonstrate respect and understanding, and provide expert advice when needed. I hold myself to these standards in my work with clients. Based on positive feedback from my clients and having witnessed their growth, I know that counseling can effectively change people's lives.
